Improve Yourself
Of course any tip for outdoor photography is one that is going to help you improve. One is to watch the background. When you are shooting outdoors the background is going to be much different than it would be if you were shooting your pictures indoors, and so you really need to pay attention to this before snapping.
For outdoor portrait photography you want the colors to compliment and not destract from the subject. You also don’t ever want the background to be so busy that it is taking away from the subject and you are focusing mainly on the background instead.

One is that the longer the lens, the narrower angle of view that you will have, and so you are going to get less in the background.

Lighting is just as important outside as it is when you are shooting inside. You want to make sure that there is sufficient lighting and yet at the same time ensure that there aren’t any unnecessary highlights in the wrong areas because these will catch the viewer’s attention rather than the subject.
